Citadelles & Mazenod
We publish a modest number of books with an unflagging concern for quality. Every book is designed to be a landmark in the sphere of publishing as well as in the realm of art history.
Originally famous for its emblematic collection L’Art et les Grandes Civilisations (Art and Great Civilizations), a true reference in art history, Citadelles has diversified its publications and now publishes five other major collections, which it has enriched over the years. Les Phares (The Pioneers) is a collection of monographs on the major artists who have marked the history of art. Les Grands Mouvements (The Great Artistic Movements) retraces the great historical evolutions of painting and sculpture. Les Anthologies Illustrées (The Illustrated Anthologies) explore this reciprocal fascination between painting and literature.
Les Fresques (The Frescoes) tells the history of fresco painting through its most remarkable testimonies since Ancient Times. The rare books in the “Art and Nature” collection are tributes to art and science.
Always calling on the best authors and specialists, Citadelles keeps up with the latest evolutions of research in art history, which has been particularly enriched by the contribution of other disciplines, such as cultural and social history and gender studies. Our publishing company makes books that aim to pass on these new approaches.
Each year, Citadelles & Mazenod also publishes an exceptional book in a limited edition box, designed as a true work of art.
Citadelles & Mazenod’s catalogue features about 160 publications, and the company releases 15 to 20 new publications per year. Its books are distributed by Hachette Livre in bookstores, and by a network of agents specialized in direct sales to institutions and private clients.
Citadelles & Mazenod became a Comité Colbert member in 2024.
